Russia has launched the largest military operation in the Arctic since the days of the Soviet Union, as a major step in achieving the ultimate goal - capture the vast resources of oil and gas on its territory, according to British media.

Moscow possesses a nuclear-powered icebreakers (Russia is the only country in the world that has them), and even increase their number, but everything to dominate over traditional "polar" rivals: Canada, USA, Norway and new player China.

Interviews with officials and military analysts, as well as access to certain documents show the Kremlin that Russia is on the road not only to catch up with the power he once had the Soviet Union, but also to become even stronger, according to "Daily Mail".
