Abuse (as you said) of anything can happen. I know people addicted to caffeine and sugar. Also fat. They can not go a day without their fix. Addiction takes on many forms.

I was a teenager in the late 70, early 80's.. Many of my friends smoked Pot and some of them still do. Some went on to become lawyers, doctors, nurses and some went on to become addicts... I tried it but it never did anything for me but make me tired and have a sore throat.. :-) However, put a home-made chocolate chip cookie in front of me and I will have to A: throw it away quickly or B: eat it and then regret it later.. :-))

Cannabis has many positive uses but abuse is always possible, as with any substance. My wife uses cannabis for therapeutic purposes. She consumes oil and uses 6 grams of equivalent raw bud per month. Yes, I wrote per month. She uses it every day for arthritic pain and it really helps. At this level of consumption there is no threat of harm. Any substance consumed in large amounts will harm the body. It is possible to kill yourself by drinking too much water. Drinking one bottle of beer per day is harmless; drinking 5 or more is alcoholism. When it comes to consuming substances, quantity is everything.
