I'm surprised how many recent articles this might apply to.

In his final 2016 press conference, most of what President Obama had to say was forgettable - general statements, or innuendo about things we'd likely disagree with, or talking around a topic instead of addressing it, etc.

But somewhere in all that, in response to a question from a member of the establishment press, he said in passing, "...after eight years in the bubble..."

Was he acknowledging that the world looks different from inside The Beltway or from within the Oval Office, with an implication that living inside that bubble means one quickly becomes clueless about how the world looks to those whose daily living takes place outside that bubble, "in the real world"...?

Is it nearly unbelievable that Trump would view Second Amendment rights the way he does? Perhaps to one living in the bubble (referring here to establishment news reporters), it is - perhaps they really do view it as "regressive" - just as so many establishment reporters (in-the-bubble reporters) thought it unbelievable that Trump could come in from the outside and win the election...till it happened (bursting the bubble, at least a little).

It's almost common wisdom at this point that folks living inside The Beltway have "lost touch" with the folks who live in "flyover country". Perhaps the actual difference between the two states of being is more profound that we'd realized.

One can hope that the shock of seeing Donald Trump win the election may lead to at least some of those in-the-bubble folks now questioning and reassessing their perspectives on the world we actually share.
