Lockheed Martin will deliver 57 F-35 for $ 6.1 billion as part of LRIP 9 low rate initial production under the terms of a contract signed only after 15 months of negotiations. LRIP 9 prices falling by 3.7% compared to the weighted average of the previous 8 LRIP production awarded in December 2014.

$ 6.1 billion covers the structure and system of missions in F-35, but excludes the cost of Pratt & Whitney F135 engine, which were contracted in April. The Ministry of Defence has awarded the company P & W $ 1.4 billion for 66 engines and several reserve.

Joint Program Office (JPO) has opened negotiations with Lockheed 15 months ago, with the intention of signing a separate bid for LRIP LRIP 9 and 10, but a final agreement has not been reached.

"Agreement on the LRIP 9 represents a fair and reasonable deal for the US government, international partners and the industry," said Gen. Chris Bogdan, Executive Director of the program.

Lockheed will deliver 42 F-35A, F-35B 13 and two F-35C through the LRIP 9, and production should start in this fiscal year. The planes will be added to the previously produced 209 F-35 purchased through the first eight LRIP.
