Rappoport was writing about what might be thought of as "interactive news" but interactive in a way that doesn't require (or want) our conscious participation.

Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" was published in 1953, written out of concerns arising from the McCarthy hearings and the possibility of banning and burning books.

Per Wikipedia: 'Bradbury described himself as "a preventor of futures, not a predictor of them."' And yet: 'In terms of technology, Sam Weller notes that Bradbury "predicted everything from flat-panel televisions to iPod earbuds and twenty-four-hour banking machines.'

Linked below, the "interactive TV" sequence from Francois Truffaut's 1966 film of the book. I remember that in 1966, that TV seemed unbelievably huge to me. :) Today, it's about the average size one might find in a living room. In 1966, it was hard to believe anyone could be as bubble-headed as "Linda" in these scenes. Today, take a look at some of the most popular so-called "reality TV" shows and the popular "entertainment news and gossip" shows.
