I hope Trump's paying attention and rethinking his Keystone Pipeline statement
Trump has mentioned one or two things in his speeches that make me go, "Dude - have you really thought this through?"
One of those involves his readiness to "green-light" the Keystone XL Pipeline, with no mention of the objections to it raised by Indians and environmentalists.
The proposed Keystone XL Pipeline (Phase IV) would have essentially duplicated the Phase I pipeline between Hardisty, Alberta, and Steele City, Nebraska,[9] with a shorter route and a larger-diameter pipe. It would run through Baker, Montana, where American-produced light crude oil from the Williston Basin (Bakken formation) of Montana and North Dakota would be added[2] to the Keystone's current throughput of synthetic crude oil (syncrude) and diluted bitumen (dilbit) from the oil sands of Canada. However, after more than six years of review, President Barack Obama announced on November 6, 2015, his administration's rejection of the fourth phase.
Note that "Dakota Access Pipeline" is a part of the "Bakken Pipeline".
Per Wikipedia:
The Meskwaki tribe opposes the Bakken pipeline through Iowa for numerous reasons; tribal chairwoman Judith Bender "...said in her letter to the Iowa Utilities Board that she is concerned that the Bakken pipeline could be used as a replacement if the Keystone XL pipeline is not built.
...and somewhat explains the amount of pressure and sense of urgency surrounding the Standing Rock situation. With the Keystone XL Pipeline not approved, the Bakken pipeline and that part of it known as the Dakota Access Pipeline becomes more important to Energy Transfer Partners LP, parent of Dakota Access, LLC, that's pushing all this forward.
Wikipedia says, "The [Dakota Access Pipeline] is currently due for delivery on January 1, 2017." That information comes from a Reuters article which also mentions, "...each extra month of delay will cost the company more than $80 million."
