Ukraine is committed to deliver engines for Indian frigates built in Russia

Ukraine has agreed to provide engines for Krivak class (Project 11356) frigates that India will buy from Russia, said Indian Defence Minister to the assembled journalists.

Based Krivak Talwar-class or classes, as it is called Class frigates built in India, improved version was supposed to be a class of six new frigates to be used by the Russian Navy.

Three ships from the first series - Admiral Grigorovich, Admiral Essen and Admiral Makarov - have been successfully completed in the Yantar shipyard with delivery engine that produces Zorya Ukrainian-Mashproyekt.

However, after the conflict in the Crimea in 2014, Ukraine has refused to deliver the remaining three engines forcing Russia to consider the transfer of the remaining three frigates to India. Construction of the second series of the frigate is already underway.

After meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin in October this year, it was announced that India will get a total of four enhanced Krivak class frigates. There is also a proposal to build two frigates in India and two in Russia.

On 25 October, the Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar told reporters at the conference naval commanders in New Delhi, said that Ukraine has agreed to provide engines for frigates.
