A close associate of former British Prime Minister published a book in which he described the situation in the Conservative Party at the time of Brexit.
Referendum on Britain leaving the EU has divided members of the British ruling party, on opposite sides found themselves then Prime Minister David Cameron and London Mayor Boris Johnson. Now are leaked messages from which it is clear how Johnson pondered around the support Brexit.
"You should have stayed with me, man." So reads the text of SMS message of June 30, that Boris Johnson received from David Cameron. It was exactly seven days after the majority of British people in a referendum voted for the withdrawal of the state from the European Union, and only a few hours after Boris Johnson announced that he would not be a candidate for the Conservative Party of British Prime Minister, writes Guardian.
These 25 characters perfectly describe the political spirit which then ruled by Britain. Book "All Out War: The Full Story of How Brexit Sank Britain's Political Class" written by political editor of the Sunday Times Tim Shipman, suggests that at the time there were other messages between the old rivals, which have until now remained out of public view .
Johnson undecided
Another book about the conditions at the time Brexita, called "Unleashing Demons: The Inside Story of Brexit," wrote Craig Oliver, one of the key contributors Cameron and strategists in his referendum campaign to stay in the EU. Oliver Johnson writes that even thinking about it, and the day before he announced his decision to support Brexitu. This is also corroborated by two messages which was then sent to Cameron.
In one he wrote that he will support campaign for Brexit, and in another he expressed doubts. The next day, Johnson sent a final message saying that he will support the release of the UK from the EU. Nine minutes later, as he announced at a press conference in front of his home in London.
Twist in the Hurlingham Club
Earlier, on June 29, Johnson was London's Hurlingham Club at an event organized by the Conservatives. He sent a message to Michael Gove, who was sitting at another table, about his plan to secure a top position Andrei Leads in his government. "Andrea wants to tweet something like" I look forward to the launch tomorrow with a top team of Michael Gove and Andrea Leads "Are you ok?" Gove did not answer.
Is no answer for rattling cutlery and loud atmosphere but did not hear my phone? Or Gove sabotaged an agreement with Leads purpose? It may never be known, what is known is that by the end of the evening Leads decided to go in a race against Johsnona and run for party president.
He accused him of sabotage
But another event that took place at that time could explain the situation in more detail. That same night, just 12 hours before the planned publication of Boris Johnson's candidacy, his key ally Nick Boles reportedly found a note from the leads, sent Johnson cut in 21:38. "I'm very sorry for Boris and Michael, but it is clear that I had to send a public statement tonight. I would very much like to work with you, but now I have to send their papers for nomination. All the best, Andrea. "
Johnson claims that he had no idea at the time that the deal fell through. Johnson's response, says Boles, was: "Sorry, my mistake. Boles told about the letter, not the tweet. We tweeting now or first thing tomorrow, as you prefer. "Johnson is accused Boles that sabotaged his attempt to join with leads because he took a cell phone. How Shipman says. "It is surprising that the future of the country's leadership was questioned, in part, because of these misunderstandings."
shameful SMS
A few days later, on July 6, Nick Boles, now was the campaign manager Michael Govea, Twitter has released an apology for the message that is sent to MPs asking them to vote tactically to prevent "serious deterrent" Andrea is a risk that it becomes Leads Prime Minister. "I apologize to Gove message I sent," Boles wrote in a tweet. "He knew about it, nor is it authorized. And that does not reflect his views. "
These false messages would not affect the leadership of the country, but are quite shameful. At a meeting chaired by Oliver, Cameron's chief spin doctor and author of the aforementioned book, the room burst Lucy Thomas, Oliver's secret love and activist to stay Great Britain in the EU. Oliver sent her a message: "You look shattered." All cell phones in the room at that moment, they were vibrated. Oliver, instead of Lucy, mistakenly sent the message in Whats app group campaign.
