Three Russian warships have been sent in the Mediterranean: two of these are equipped with cruise missiles Kalibr NK. On 5 October, the Russian Admiralty ordered the corvette class Buyan-M, Serpukhov and Zelyony Dol, operating with the Black Sea Fleet, to sail from Sevastopol. 24 hours later, the missile corvette nanuchka-class corvette III, the Mirazh, received such orders.

The latter, in 2008, sank a Georgian ship near the coast of Abkhazia. The Serpukhov and Zelyony Dol will join the permanent fleet in the Mediterranean: their presence therefore fall within the programmed rotation.

The two units Buyan-M class have crossed the Bosporus on 5 October. The missile corvettes will launch position from the eastern Mediterranean. With a range of about 2,000 km, the supersonic 3M-54 Kalibr could be placed on submarines and on units from small battle. The missile is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warhead that can be launched from submarines class Varshavyanka, Akula, Lada and Yasen. The Serpukhov and Zelyony Dol have already launched missiles Kalibr against Jabhat objectives Fatah Al-Sham (formerly al-Nusra Front), identified in the Dar-Taaza and in the province of Aleppo, Syria.

Last November, the Flotilla of the Caspian Sea War launched eighteen missiles Kalibr-NK from Dagestan units, Grad Sviyazhsk, Uglich and Veliky Ustyug. The same units executed the first attack with cruise missiles from the sea last October 7, throwing 26 Kalibr from the Caspian Sea. The Mirazh is equipped with anti-ship missiles P-120 MALAHIT (SS-N-9 Siren) and should be part of the group battle of the Admiral Kuznetsov, whose deployment should be imminent.

In the eastern Mediterranean the Russians in activities such units fighting the leader of the class missile frigate Admiral Grigorovich, the missile frigate class Krivak II, Pytlivyj and minesweepers Ivan Golubets.

The Russian General Staff puts a lot of faith in frigates Admiral Grigorovich. Six units of the 11356 project are currently under construction. The Admiral Grigorovich are based on the technology used for Indian frigates built in Russia, Talwar class. From the latter inherit the stealth characteristics of the hull to reduce the rcs. They will also feature the new modular system of air defense Shtil, deemed able to intercept all aircraft, piloted and not, existing and future. One of the main features of the system is its high speed of standardized fire to two seconds to launch.
