The Crests were one of the many popular doo-wop vocal groups of the late 1950s-to-1960 era who were unique in having a White lead singer (Johnny Maestro) fronting three background vocalists were were Black and one who was Puerto Rican. In addition to the YouTube track provided below, the Crest's most popular and well-known singles included 16 Candles (a #2 hit in 1959), Step By Step, and Trouble in Paradise. Maestro left to pursue a solo career in 1961 and the group never regained the same level of popularity as before. By the end of the 1960s, Maestro joined forces with another group called The Brooklyn Bridge which produced a #3 hit single called "The Worst That Could Happen."
