The Boeing KC-45 beat out the EADS Airbus 330 submission the second time around to win the KC-X tanker competition for the United States Air Force.

Boeing faces considerable problems in the program KC-46 tanker

Boeing will hit a new financial shock in the amount of 393 million USD to the program KC-46 tankers, partly because of a problem with the refueling in the air, causing a delay in one of the major milestones of the program, the company said.
Financial sanctions are expected, but the bad news for the company is the fact that it has already exceeded planned costs by 1.5 billion USD. With new nearly 400 million USD, the total value of fines will rise to almost 1.9 billion USD.
As part of the contract Boeing is responsible for all costs of the program over 4.9 billion USD which was given by the US Air Force for the development of the aircraft.
According to the company, penalties because of delays reflect the increased costs associated with the current schedule of programs and technical challenges that include the implementation of hardware solutions for system updates fuel due to problems with axial loads identified during test flights and delays in the certification process.
