Re: Race Problems in America - O'Reilly Nails ....

I am seldom a fan of Bill O'Reilly, but for the most part I completely agree with the points made in this video regarding the actual causes of crime in inner cities. There are many "inconvenient truths" on all sides. One of these is that we are all responsible for our own choices. We all know that the majority of inner city children living in poverty and squalor are there because of the failure of their parents to provide a family home that teaches personal responsibility. In most cases there is no father figure which directly affects the sons of these unwed mothers but it also affects the daughters too in ways that perpetuate the cycle of destruction.

This is a multigenerational problem and the solution will not be easy. I agree that part of the answer is to stop glorifying the gang bangers and hip-hop culture in the media. Part of the answer is to make sure all birth control options are free and accessible for girls and boys, women and men in the inner city. Part of the answer is to encourage Black leaders to talk about personal responsibility and accountability and stop taking the black racist and easy way out by blaming all the present troubles on history going back to slavery before 1865 or civil rights issues before 1965 - These problems are here and now and only personal responsibility will lead to a solution.

I do partly disagree with Bill O'Reilly on one issue - There is no reason marijuana should be treated as being in the same category as heroine or meth. It should be legalized and controlled exactly as alcohol is controlled. That would make some dent in the number of people arrested on drug charges and would not be likely to be any worse for the community than alcohol.
