(Lots of variables touched on in that article - soap or no soap, deodorant or apple cider vinegar - lemon works for me :) - days without any shower or showering with plain water, just "rinsing", etc. Personally I found that when I stopped using commercial deodorant things became a lot less smelly. Anyway, the whole "microbiome" idea is interesting to ponder. :)

I am not sure I agree with this article.

As a remodeler, I work hard and sweat. I have gone without showering for multiple days, and I can assure you that the stink gets worse, to the point I can not stand my own smell after about 4 or 5 days. I have done this multiple times to test this theory out when i know i will not be working around others. I will note that there is a period when the smell starts to diminish, usually the second day, but then it intensifies on subsequent days.

This may work for someone sitting behind a desk, but my experience tells me it does not work for someone like myself.

Besides, a warm shower has other benefits besides washing bacteria off the surface of the skin!
