My response:

It is not an excuse at all. No one is suggesting that he was profiled or prejudiced against for simply having his pants waist down below his butt - just that choosing to wear his pants that way caused him to have to reach down to hold his pants up before charging the policeman to keep his pants from falling down around his ankles doing so is very similar to the action someone might take if reaching for a gun or other weapon. Thus in the split second or so that the officer had to make a decision on whether to shoot or not that might well have entered into his thought process.

In the end, what does it matter? Though it is tragic that he lost his life Michael Brown was a thug who had strong-arm robbed a store, assaulted the police officer and tried to take his gun away and assaulted him and then turned and charged the officer. The forensics and eye witness testimonies were indisputable - including testimonies by numerous blacks. There is no one to blame for his death but himself.

If anything good comes of this tragedy perhaps it will spur the movement to have all police officers wear body cameras and lead to better training for police. I wish, but am sure it is asking too much, that it would also lead people not making their minds up based on false narratives and years old photos by both the media and by not only crowds looking for any excuse to air their grievances but also thugs looking to loot, destroy and burn.
