I've Been Hearing....and It's Really Too Easy.....
That many people are making a bootable USB thumbdrive with Ubuntu on it! Here's the SIMPLE instruction on how to do it from Windows!:

You can run Ubuntu Live from the USB, or you can install Ubuntu so you are able to dual boot, either into Ubuntu or Windows!
From a local business that installs *nix distros onto people's pc's told me that many people who have the dual boot option, usually choose to exclusively use the *nix (usually Ubuntu) to boot into simply for its speed, stability and security....and not to mention, ease of use!
I only own 1 PC at home that has Windows 7 on it!...the rest of the PCs either have Ubuntu, Lubuntu, or Mac OS X (PowerPC version). My son uses his Ubuntu PC to play Minecraft on and it runs quite well! If there are any *gamers* out there, there is also Steam Games:

The number of games for Linux at the above link is 4,660 games!
Not too bad for a FREE Operating System to have that many games developed for it!
Oh....and if you've "cut the cable" of video service but still have high speed internet, you're still in luck! Netflix works in Google Chrome with Ubuntu/Linux!
