Control freaks and financial junkies like to dominate everything, to gain more control and money. Examples, to dumb down the population, eliminate the knowledge handed down from previous generations, make people dependent on a monopolized industry, reduce competition, legislate barriers to independence and self-reliance, can't have a veggie garden because that would compete with poisonous GMO food, and big grocery chains, etc..

Individual resignation, surrender, submission, to what appears to be overwhelming force, control, domination, is also rampant among the population. Life itself without all the control freaks and financial junkies can be overwhelming too. People have already been run into the ground. Hence the addiction to entertainment, food, and anything that draws attention away from the serious problems at hand. Scariness is being replaced with anger at all the abuse.
