Why was the Very American 'Hart to Hart' Canceled? Twelfth Most Watched Show in U.S. Syndicated in 89 Countries! Commentary

If a new, modern U.S. television series survives more than one season it is something of miracle, but, if a series goes on to complete five seasons it is quite a good show, indeed. Television series 'Hart to Hart', starring Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers as Jonathan and Jennifer Hart, provides more to viewers than just pretty people and places and lots of action. It does something very American - it shows capitalist role models who give we, the viewers, a healthy incentive to work, earn, and make a profit. There certainly is nothing bad in a work ethic where there is inspiration to create, build, work, and ultimately to profit from such efforts.

Series 'Hart to Hart' provides that and more - an inspirational incentive to protect and defend those works and creations of wealth. So that is sometimes where lots of action is involved in these excellent 'Hart to Hart' episodes - when the lead characters are attacked and their companies placed at risk, etc., there is a defense against such aggression, not unlike what happens in the real world and, especially, the business world.

This even gets into highlighting our rights under The Constitution to be "secure in our papers and possessions".

So why was such an excellent series, twelfth most watched in U.S. and syndicated in 89 countries, canceled after a five year run? It was reportedly dropped off the air just a day before the 1985 fall schedule was announced, similar to the abrupt cancellation of the famous 'Bonanza' show. Maybe those new folks at the network were not quite so capitalistic. Perhaps many television and other productions were replaced by more common, less capitalistic themes which were designed to appeal to poorer audiences amidst this U.S. Bankruptcy austerity. After all, how could they prepare a nation to accept less and less and higher taxation with shows about millionaires still on the air? How could a floodgate of illegal immigration multiculturalism agree with a show about two white, wealthy business owners? The criminals who run the U.S. have been preparing for a long time for what is now happening and for a different kind of audience. It appears those execs don't want any more for us than the late comedian George Carlin described when he said "you have owners - they own you!" They don't want anything too American! That might give folks the idea they have rights!

'Hart to Hart' is something very American and represents what we have known in America, but it appears that before too long we will hardly be able to recognize the current America!

'Hart to Hart', available on DVD still provides an honest, healthy incentive for viewers to study in school, work hard and become successful!
