Could not agree more.... Have been saying this very thing for years.. There is no such thing as "Hate Crime" in a free society. There is only crime. Assault is assault. Murder is murder. Rape is rape. Slander is Slander. It doesn't matter if the attacker or the attackee was prejudiced. No victim deserves a special protected status under the law. Worse yet is the idea that using offensive speech or insults should be considered a "hate crime," when in reality it is just a nicer word for censorship.

The only thing that hate crime laws accomplish is to reinforce that minorities are different from whites. That is the opposite of what government should be doing. Instead of treating all people the SAME under the law, hate crime laws judge people based on their minute differences. These laws make people believe that those small features should be used to define them. That’s wrong. Our differences should not be defined or enforced by law. If anything, they should be overcome.

A white shooter should face the same punishment for shooting a black person as they would for shooting a white person. After all, it was an individual that committed the crime, and individuals that were killed. The government should not declare it to be anything more than that.
