Obama & Co. hate the Clintons, and would much rather have Biden be the next president. Furthermore, they have the means to deep-six Hillary's candidacy at any time, with Emailgate. But timing is crucial. They do want Hillary to knock Sanders out of the race. But at some point between that point and the convention, would be the optimal time to lower the boom on Hillary and trot out Biden as the designated replacement.

I think Biden could be a serious threat to presumptive GOP nominee Trump, precisely by seeming non-threatening to many traditionally Democratic voters who are currently uncomfortable with Clinton. Inoffensive, somewhat buffoonish, eccentrically avuncular Biden may be just the breath of recycled flight cabin air that those who elected Obama twice, but dread choosing between Trump and Clinton, could imagine resigning themselves to voting for.

So I'm thinking perhaps we should be careful about how soon we wish Hillary would be indicted, since that might be Obama's ultimate weapon against not just Hillary but also Trump.
