Director of the US Central Information Agency (CIA), John Brennan said on Friday to the leaders of the police and security agencies in Bosnia & Herzegovina (BiH) readiness of his agency for full support to the authorities in that country for the fight against terrorism, local media reported.
"We received support and were told that we can count on the cooperation with the CIA and on the exchange of information," said after meeting with Brennan Minister of the Interior of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Aljoša Campara.
CIA Director Brennan arrived in Sarajevo from Riyadh.
In the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina he met with leaders of the BiH police and security agencies that make up the the impact in fight against terrorism.
Otherwise, the Serbian newspaper Policy in the printed edition of Saturday revealed many details about this sudden officially unannounced visit of the powerful American intelligence officer. Paper also states that only intensified security measures in the center of Sarajevo indicated that a high-ranking official is in town. His arrival was not announced publicly, but as it turned out, some state officials did not know the reason for his visit.
Mentioned Minister Aljosa Campara told Slobodna Bosna that Brennan arrived at the invitation of Mehmedagića Osman, Director of the Intelligence and Security Agency (OSA).
CIA chief met at a working lunch with members of the Task Force for Combating Terrorism, consisting of heads of police of both entities, director of the OSA, Minister of Security of BiH and the Prosecutor General, and subsequently also met with members of the BiH Presidency. In this meeting, they talked about the security situation in BiH and the possibility of establishing a regional working groups of the Balkan countries for combat terrorism.
'We briefed the Director of the CIA about the problem of surplus weapons that can be smuggled and used in terrorist attacks. We briefly talked and organized crime, the fight against corruption, the rule of law ', said Campara.
Even before that, it could have been assumed that smuggling of weapons will be the topic of discussion since the first man of the CIA in Sarajevo arrived only a day after the two-day Interpol operation "Balkan trigger", in which it participated Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia police, and arrested 14 people and seized weapons, ammunition and explosives. The information collected in this action could be helpful in the detection of possible links with terrorist activities in the region, according to policy.
To CIA head were presented the data on the participation of BiH citizens in foreign battlefields. About that was previously informed the public, at a press conference held by Dragan Lukac, director of the Federal Police Administration. According to Lukac, in the ranks of terrorist organizations in Syria and Iraq fought from 200 to 250 citizens of BiH. So far killed were about 50 of them, and about the same number have returned to the country where they are processed or supervised, because, he said, they pose a serious security threat.
How Brennan's visit was surprise to some of the BiH officials, testifys statements of the Minister of Security of BiH, Dragan Mektic and federal police minister Campara, days ahead of the meeting with the guest, they said they do not know what will be the topic of conversation with the first man of one of the world's most known intelligence agencies.
Brennan arrived in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the US military plane from Riyadh, where he attended a meeting of US President Barack Obama with the highest officials of six Arab countries on regional security issues, including the fight against the Islamic state.
