Messner Mountain Museum Corones is open after work slowed down by the fact that there is at the top of the mountains, on difficult terrain accessible. The truly unusual appearance created is perhaps the most famous architect Zaha Hadid today. The museum is located at 2275 meters above sea level, on top of Plan de Corones in South Tyrol Alps, and his position was in fact the biggest challenge in the construction.

The legendary mountaineer

Messner Mountain Museum Museum Corones is intended for lovers of mountains and hiking. This is the sixth museum was built thanks to the visionary ideas of the Italian mountaineers and extreme climber Reinhold Messner, the man who climbed Mount Everest without oxygen and won all 14 peaks higher than 8,000 meters above sea level.

Each of the six museum offers educational content on the mountains, the ways of their creation, attractions, history, important people ... The visual identity of the sixth of the museum is the famous climber decided to leave the famous Zahi Hadid, and she was in his distinctive style, literally dug into the rock. Building into a complex array of fluid composition and interconnected volumes as if they were carved into the mountain and follow its form. Three volumes visually separated "out" from the rock, and at their ends are large glazed areas and creates the impression as if they are floating.

More than a thousand squares

The three large windows and balcony "in the air", together with ambient interior lighting of the museum, creating an impressive contrast between the outer and inner space. Besides the exhibition, the museum serves as a lookout that offers a fabulous view of the countryside. The idea of ​​the architect was that visitors enter the mountain itself but the entrance to the museum resembles a sort of entrance into the cave through which the visitor discovers the exhibits until they break through to the other side where before it opens a spectacular view. The concrete building has thick walls between 40 and 50 and the roof 70 centimeters to withstand the pressure of the earth and the mountains surrounding the museum from all sides. The area is more than 1000 square meters exhibition space spread over three floors and includes a small multimedia movies and a variety of other services for visitors.
