That the ceasefire in Syria will be difficult to achieve, was not doubted by any party in Moscow and Washington. But the only alternative to cease-fire is the continuation of violence and war, and in that America does not want to be drawn.
As Assad's forces are in a major offensive on the way to the final victory (at least, most importantly, the north-western and southern part of the country), and defense Islamist units are in disarray, a ceasefire and political negotiations are the most what at this point the US could get.
However, it is clear that the both world powers count on the possibility of the collapse of the deal and on "plans B" in this case certainly exist. About American one publicly spoke Pentagon and Secretary of State John Kerry, unwilling to go public with details, said that "plan B", goes in the direction of the division of Syria.
About Russian reserve plan for now there are only guesses for now but even it is not far from that US, at least when it comes to the internal territorial division of Syria, ie. its federalization.
In fact, the agreement on cease-fire firstly can destroy regional countries, Turkey and Saudi Arabia through the armed groups on the ground that are already monitored. So, just only few so-called Free Syrian Army (SSV) brigades that are supported by the US and Persian Gulf monarchies, rejected signing US-Russian deal. As the main reason for the rejection of the plan they mentioned the notice of continuing bombardment of "Džabat al-Nusreod" units by the Syrian army and the Russian Air Force.
It this statement that reflects all the complexity of the separation of so-called moderate Syrian opposition from terrorist groups. This statement the is de facto confirmation of the direct connection between the parts SSV with "Al-Nusra" and its branch "Ahrar ash-Sham" which, by the way, is supported by Saudi Arabia. The latter formation also announced by press release the rejection of the ceasefire, and that in the same pattern as the aforementioned SSV brigade.
"Free Syrian Army" despite the many efforts by the US and its regional allies, has so far failed to transform its amorphous formation into a compact organization with a unique political platform. It is glued only by desire to overthrow the government of President Bashar al-Assad). SSV is made of 60 various brigades and battalions, of which only three have nothing to do with "Džabat al-Nusra." They work exclusively with the Kurdish units of national self-defense. All the other SSV brigades are subordinated Al-Nusra or work closely with it.
They destroyed Assad because Qatari gas to Europe plan
Although to better experts of world events this information is not new, it should be made known to the general public, and it will serve well the article by nephew of former US president, lawyer and publicist, Robert Kennedy Jr., published in the American newspaper "Politico".
"Our war against Bashar Assad began not with the peaceful civil protests of the" Arab Spring "of 2011. It began in 2000, when Qatar proposed the construction of a gas pipeline worth $ 10 billion through Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and Turkey, "says Kennedy.
The pipeline would ensure the Sunni monarchies of the Persian Gulf decisive advantage in the global gas market and to strengthen Qatar as a close US ally in the region. Kennedy goes on saying, that just in that country were built two large American military bases and the US Central Command base for the Middle East.
The article further states that, in protecting Russian interests, Syrian President Assad refused to sign the agreement on building a gas pipeline and decided to build another pipeline that would go from Iran to Lebanon through the Iraqi and Syrian territory, which b< this would become a major exporter of gas to Europe. Shi'ite Iran would become a leader, not Qatar. It went against the interests of the Sunni Arab East and, immediately after the rejection of Assad, USA intelligence, Saudi Arabia and Israel have begun preparing for the uprising in Syria with the aim to dethrone Assad. They started to finance opposition, and Kennedy encloses informations about secret accounts.
Thus, he says further, CIA sent $ 6 million to Barada British television production for production of trailer about the overthrow of Assad. And all this despite the fact that the Syrian regime was much more moderate than those of the Sunni monarchy. Syria has been a secular state with a pluralistic rule, Assad was engaged for liberalization and after the terrorist attacks of September 11, he submitted to CIA all the necessary information, according to the author of the text.
In 2013, the Sunni monarchy, whose energy interests hang in the balance, have been proposed by Washington to cover all expenses if the US takes down the Syrian leader.
"In fact, some of them said, if the United States is ready to do the work, in the way we used to do it in other places (in Iraq), they will assume all expenses," admitted US Secretary of State John Kerry at the hearing in Congress. Qatar, which was more than anyone interested in the overthrow of Assad, has invested in the training of 'insurgents' $ 3 billion and called on the Pentagon to train fighters on its territory.
"The strategists of US intelligence agencies from the very beginning knew how to use arms of radical jihadists, who probably, for themselves are building a new Islamic caliphate of the Sunni regions in Syria and Iraq," writes Robert Kennedy.
Following US oil and gas interests, CIA exploited jihadists to dismiss Middle Eastern regimes practically since their founding in 1947, says the author. US authorities considered radical religious forces prospective adversary that will influence the Soviet Union. Already in 1957 the US unsuccessfully attempted coup in Syria and to overthrow the democratically elected secular government, and from then it did not stop. The establishment of the "oil of a criminal organization", "Islamic State" is the result of a long history of US involvement, says US writer Robert Kennedy Jr..
It's not about Putin's whim
After these harsh words what to add. Perhaps that only in the given circumstances, any, to the national interests of his country loyal to Russian President, on this issue on Syria wold act identically as President Vladimir Putin.
Because thise is not about Putin's whim, political ambitions, complexes. And though all of these features in a certain amount probably has every politician and statesman, including Putin, everyone in the world who need to know, know that he could not act otherwise than to provide full protection of Assad. Everything else is just a media spin and speculation that go in the direction of psychological and propaganda campaign in order to achieve geopolitical gains.
Syria is for Russia the only point from which it "listens" the whole Eastern Mediterranean, including Israel, not to speak about the importance of its only naval base in the port of Tartus, as well as the value of contracts on deliveries of Russian weapons to the Syrian Ministry of Defence. By active entry to Syria, Russia regains lost influence in the entire Arab world.
Assad's government has strongly indebted Russia and it now returns the favor. Anything else would mean to Moscow the inability to protect their most important allies and would remove it from the position of influential country to address the most important issues of the world and turn it into a mere observer of unfolding global processes.
