Best Answer: There are grips, gestures and other symbols. A Mason's grip is his hand shake. The Mason's grip tell other Masons what degree he is or what level he is. Ever wonder why the throat slash gesture was banded from sports? Because the throat slash is a Masonic Gesture. Basically is means they have sworn a vow of secrecy. Only in Masonic rituals are clothing and positions relevant.

A Masonic handshake cannot be identified by sight, in fact a even if a Mason gives such handshake to a non-Mason the non-Mason would not know the difference. It must be mutual and it must be taught hands-on, it cannot easily be learned simply by illustration or description. CL is correct as well that it is not by itself taken as a means of identification.

Europeans approach handshakes differently than Americans, and politicians and diplomats get trained to do the same by what is called the "upper hand" principle, in effect it is so that they control the handshake and not the other guy.

Any other signs, gestures or postures a Mason may display would not be done in public, only inside of a Lodge or in private among other known Masons, it is not a way and means by which a Mason would communicate or identify himself to another Mason in public. I am a Freemason.
