It's my understanding that there is a lot more too the topic than is presently understood by most, including those who feel they are well versed on the topic. Incidentally, At age 17 I spontaneously developed the ability to recall my past lives. I may write more on this if I have the time and energy. For now let me just comment on your posting. You mention that we have free will to plan our life while on the other side so why not chose the option you mention and not another life that may include some of the many
difficulties that so many on earth experience? Well, when you are here you see and understand "as through a glass darkly". On the other side the ego is not a factor and you see things clearly. You realize that the purpose of physical existence is the evolution of the soul consciousness that inhabits for a certain number of years a physical body. You also are aware of your other lives and any unbalanced karma remaining from those lives. You become aware of just the type of life you need to live in your next incarnation to further your soul growth and you ask for this life and are given it. On the other side with all the physical limitations removed you are filled courage and conviction and you can't wait to "get on with it" through living the life you and your guides planned. But, it is always you who has to say yes or no it. Invariably, we say yes! Then we return through the veil of forgetfulness and it seems that we are trapped in a physical body for a certain amount of years and we are subject to all of the trials and travails of physical life and I'm sure most wonder at some point, "is this all there is" and/or "why would anyone want to go through this?" But, if we consciously were totally without any doubt that we were actually spiritually beings having a physical experience for a brief time to learn and grow in consciousness from it, but after that brief time we would return to the greater soul from which we came and where everything was wonderful, then the earth experience would lose much of its value for learning, growth, and balance. Its like when you go to a scary movie and for a brief time while you are there it seems real and you experience fear. So then why to people go to experience this? Well, at least in part its because they know on a deeper level that its just an illusion that they take part in for a short time so they willing do this knowing its only temporary.
