Such cases when presented in the media ad nausium would lead most to believe that this is a condition all over and beg the question if our youth has lost it's moral compass. However, such cases are rare. What may be considered is that somewhere around 5% of the children born are psychopaths and sociopaths who will never have a moral compass regardless of upbringing. That is what I'm seeing here.

I see what you're saying, but so far in this case I'm not seeing the classical psychopath/sociopath in what has been reported so far about these young people, especially the girl. She had been bullied in school herself and had depression and self worth and self harm issues which I don't think is typical of sociopaths. But then there is the Prozac which can have unpredictable effects, especially in teenagers. As to the young man, in high school he was a track star and was even profiled in a professionally made school video. Perhaps he was less stellar in college and this allowed some underlying sociopathic tendencies to emerge.

But I think there are serious defects in modern culture which allow young people to grow up with a moral emptiness and lack of a sense of when it is wrong to do something, and instead develop a fascination with the dark side as something exciting. And I think these defects in modern culture have been intentional inserted by the satanic forces that dream of finally establishing their new world order.
