"King’s socialism also convinced many blacks to adopt welfare liberalism. It transformed them into a permanent Democratic constituency. The results have been disastrous. The nanny state has crippled the black community, undermining self-reliance, entrepreneurship and personal responsibility. It has fostered family breakdown, soaring rates of illegitimacy and trapped millions in a cycle of poverty and urban squalor. King showed blacks the way out from segregation, but he led them to an economic plantation."

One could argue that this was the best situation for blacks at a time when meaningful jobs were still not offered to blacks. Yes, it became a permanent fixture in America, due to Democratic support, but that fact cannot be blamed on King.

As for his affairs with women, well, if we condemn him for that whe must also condemn most male members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, and lots of presidents as well.

King spoke out against the Vietnam war because he saw it for what it really was: a death trap for thousands of young black males. Though pundits spoke of the "policy of containment" against Soviet hegemony, that war was never really about anything except establishing a massive, covert drug operation by the CIA. We were certainly not there to liberate South Vietnam from Communist inroads, but might have succeeded at that had it not been for growing opposition to the war. The US never lost the war in Vietnam; we lost that war at home.

King's antiwar activism is what got him killed, probably by the FBI.

As for his "socialism," that was a reaction to the excesses of Corporate America and its paid Congressional lackeys.

Finally, just do an honest comparison between all that King accomplished for American Blacks, and what passes for current black leadership today. Enough said.
