NATO could take Italy missile batteries SAMP/T to defend turkish air space. It is 'what transpires from sources close to the Alliance.

After the withdrawal of the US and German Patriots from the cities of Gaziantep and Kahramanmaras, the ground-to-air defense under NATO auspices is entrusted to missile batteries in Spain. Madrid, after a redeployment of eleven months, has decided to extend its involvement in the operation "Active Fence" until 31 December 2016. The Patriot PAC-2 Spanish (six batteries with a total of 24 surface-to-air missiles) are deployed in the vicinity of Adana, the fifth largest city in Turkey, and 63 miles from the border with Syria.

In the last hours, NATO is considering the involvement of Italy. Air Policing cooled the track, the Italian government could be made a formal request to deploy some platforms Samp/T. The surface-to-air short and medium-range missiles should be integrated into the Patriot network already in service.

The US Navy, meanwhile, has already announced the permanent redeployment in the Black Sea of one of the four Arleigh Burke class destroyers stationed in Rota, Spain. If so, the new architecture of the NATO defense of turkish airspace after the withdrawal of the German and American Patriots, would be based on a variety of platforms backed by Spain and Italy (from the ground) and by the United States and Denmark from the sea. Germany has already deployed a Boeing E-3 Sentry in Turkish air base of Konya province in central Anatolia.
