While the Western Pacific is continually getting hammered by strong typhoons, the Atlantic basin has been quiet as a churchmouse for years. While Hurricane Sandy did wreak havoc along the East Coast a few years back, it didn't hit as a major (Category 3 or higher) hurricane.
