Lots of momma bears with cubs have been sighted in Denver this year. While bear sightings around Denver are the norm, seeing young bears or cubs in trees in central Denver is, well, amazing and unusual.

University is a street that runs north and south through the Denver area. Broadway and University can be thought of as a dividing line that runs north to south through the heart of downtown. This year one cub was found on the University of Denver campus (hence the name of the street) in a tree. That was in July.

During the last week of August a mother and cub were found south of that location, but also just off of University. Perhaps the first cub belonged to that mother.

One citizen in a nearby suburb heard his dog barking incessantly. It was about a bear, of course. Two cubs. He shot two rubber bullets at the bears but that didn't scare them away. So, he shot and killed one with a real bullet. The upshot is this guy has now been charged with a felony for protecting his property. I disagree with the legal action. It's just another example of how our rights have been stripped.

The day after the arraignment of the "bear killer", 3 more bears were arrested and detained by the police/wildlife officers. Seems it doesn't matter if you are a human or a bear. And we must remember we only have a right to kill a bear if attacked. Therefore, if one harrasses your dog, one must get in between the two and be ready to fire when the bear charges. Then you are justified. Control Freaks. We live in a world of freaks I tell ya. This is not to be construed as me being anti-bear. In fact, I am considering starting a movement to brings Grizzlies back to Colorado. This is about one's property, a dog, or whatever not being harmed by anything that means harm to your property.

Later, we found that all the bears were being removed to a single area. Some place on the edge of town called The Bare Club. I reckon bears have not yet learned to spell. "i" before "e" and all that crap. Probably an ordinance about that somewhere.
