Wall Street investors may be breathing a temporary sigh of relief as stock prices in New York have rebounded a bit today. However, if you focus on what took place on the Shanghai stock exchange last night and what's happening in the spot gold market today, a totally different picture emerges.
Recall that Shanghai stocks fell by a whopping 8.45% on Friday and the same index got hammered again (for the 5th straight trading session) by ANOTHER 7.63% last night. The fact that the Chinese have been heavy buyers of physical gold, ask yourself how is it possible that in a period of economic turmoil that a physical commodity that has been used as real money for centuries is being driven lower, while the US Dollar, a fiat currency that can be conjured up out of thin air, soars in price?
