Thanks for the note! Curious: what is you "other favorite requiem"?
Asking because I am not that familiar with other ones.
Requiem
A Requiem or Requiem Mass, also known as Mass for the dead (Latin: Missa pro defunctis) or Mass of the dead (Latin: Missa defunctorum), is a Mass in the Catholic Church offered for the repose of the soul or souls of one or more deceased persons, using a particular form of the Roman Missal. It is frequently, but not necessarily, celebrated in the context of a funeral.
Musical settings of the propers of the Requiem Mass are also called Requiems, and the term has subsequently been applied to other musical compositions associated with death and mourning, even when they lack religious or liturgical relevance.
The idea of a special form of music to honor (and grieve for) someone who has just passed away is kind of cool.
Your note sent me to look up more about it so I am studying a bit.
Actually the only other requiem I know well is Brahms' "A German Requiem" and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.
Read through the English translation; it makes a superb poem.
This particular part (from Peter 1) is incredible and the music he writes for it is forever haunting, majestic, spine chilling and glorious. I love this part!
For all flesh is as grass,
and all the glory of man
as the flower of grass.
The grass withereth,
and the flower thereof falleth away.
