Ukraine has struck two military bases in central Russia, hundreds of kilometers from the border between the two states, using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the New York Times reported, citing a Ukrainian official.

Saratov Regional Governor Roman Busargin assured residents they were safe after reports on social media of what he said was a "loud bang and flash" at Engels Air Force Base.

"Information about incidents at military installations is controlled by law enforcement agencies," he initially said.

Russian Media: Enemy forces have reached the banks of the Volga!
Russia's Readovka news agency reported that both blasts took place at airports Moscow uses to attack Ukrainian infrastructure. Readovka confirmed that two Tu-95 aircraft were damaged.

He also said the Ryazan attack was likely carried out using a drone launched from inside Ukraine (Kharkov), but cast doubt on the Engels attack.
