Psychedelic drugs are just a means of altering one's state of consciousness to be less grounded in one's ordinary sense of self and more attuned to other layers of consciousness and existence. Those states can be used in a variety of ways - both to foster personal healing and expanded awareness as well as to manipulate and place attachments on people while they are less grounded and more vulnerable. Different cultures have had different sorts of interactions with astral realm beings, some have served some rather "demonic" entities and used drugs to open those portals for the beings to attach, but some other cultures have used the same types of psychedelic substances to facilitate healing or connect with benevolent guidance. The solution is for us to be aware of both potentialities and be mindful of our own vulnerabilities and choices rather than being caught up in fearing an external evil or groups that use drugs in devious ways.
