Yes, semiconductors have, for many years, been the reason Taiwan is of interest to any foreign nation. However, I have a more pressing question:

Why are members of CONgress unlawfully acting as foreign diplomats?

The President of the United States, in Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution, is given the power to negotiate with foreign governments and appoint ambassadors. These responsibilities make the President the Chief Diplomat of the United States.

NOT members of CONgress.

Those on this junket are in some respects committing fraud as they are not authorized under the Constitution nor elected to negotiate foreign policy directly with foreign nations. Their only role in foreign policy is to vote on treaties that have been negotiated by the POTUS.

Members of Congress are not appointed ambassadors. By acting as such they put themselves in a position of unlawful conflict of interest as they are elected to represent the people of the State who voted for them. Not the entire population of the United States.
