I would tell the kids not to say anything or scream less they attract the attention of the nutcase.

I also know one day I was looking at a fire, trees burning just barely over the fence from my home and I could not speak.
No sound would come out; I couldn't for the life of me make any sound and as I attempted to tell a fireman and my ex; it just wouldn't come out. I was able to grab a hose and put out the tree
while the fireman and my ex were b.s.ing.

I could move and act but could not speak.
