I was a working mother, however...I did it most differently than many mothers who go forth into the work place. I made sure my job was working at home, so I could still meet the children's needs to have their mother, yet survive in this world needing two paychecks.

I don't disagree with her, that a man needs meaningful work that doesn't kill one's soul in the process. However, that is part of the man's own responsibility as well. Jordan Peterson covers this topic with greater acuity towards all aspects involved. He encourages people to leave soul killing jobs, but to do so responsibly. To make a plan, even if it takes some time, you don't just drop everything and chase your dream at the expense of the family.

The daughter used the words, she felt, or her perception was that her father felt these things. However, he stayed to love and care for her and her mother to provide. Whether or not he would rather have gone thrill-seeking, I don't believe she knows that. She said he loved and cared for her. When you do these things, they aren't sacrifices. A sacrifice is when you give something up you do not want to give up.

It wasn't my life-long dream to be a caretaker plus raise my children. But I wanted to stay home with my family, and this provided a way to do so. It was hard work, it was a lot to take on, but it was not a sacrifice, it was something I wanted to give to them so they had a mom at home. Perhaps her father wanted to make sure he was there for her and that was more important than the thrill seeking or personal fulfillment. Perhaps taking care of the mom and daughter WAS the personal fulfillment...and he didn't know it would have helped her to know that?
