....Thank you for contacting me regarding the Ukraine-Russia conflict. It is good to hear from you on this important issue.

As you may know, on February 24, Russia invaded its sovereign, democratic neighbor, Ukraine, destroying decades of peace and stability in Europe.

The Ukrainian people have been plunged into a deadly and devastating war because of the cruel ambition of one dictator, and make no mistake, the death and destruction of this conflict will lie solely at the feet of Vladimir Putin. Russia’s premise for this conflict is totally fabricated, but its human toll will be very real. Swift measures must be taken to inflict severe and devastating sanctions, and Russia must pay a crippling price for invading a sovereign democracy unprovoked. This is a time for our country and the world to stand in strong support of Ukraine and its citizens, including those who have left the country because of the Russian invasion. That is why I joined many of my colleagues in sending a letter to President Biden urging Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Ukrainian nationals in the United States as a result of this armed conflict in Ukraine.

President Biden has been clear with Putin from the start – an invasion will be met with severe and devastating sanctions. I helped lead a resolution which stated Congress’ unity in support of Ukrainian independence and denounced Russia’s unwarranted aggression. In January, I also helped introduce a bill, the Defending Ukraine Sovereignty Act, which would have imposed sanctions on Russia when President Putin escalated hostile action in or against Ukraine. President Biden has worked closely with our allies to present a united front, which has been and will continue to be critical. There are still more options on the table, and as the situation develops, I am confident that President Biden will continue to take appropriate measures to increase the consequences for this unprovoked aggression from Putin and Russia.

I’m thinking of my constituents with friends, family, and loved ones in Ukraine. My heart is with the Ukrainian people who only want peace, but are being forced to endure a brutal war. Please know that I am closely following the situation and will continue to do everything in my power to ensure the United States is doing its utmost to provide the necessary support for the Ukrainian people.
