Thanks for the article. It happened that a few days ago I read an article by Moon of Alabama (MoA) that said that Peng Shuai is not missing at all. Here it is,

MoA claims that it was the New York Times that hyped up the story, by using words like "sexual assault" and "rape" which Peng did not use, and failing to mention that they had a long term relationship. So the NYT made it look like a powerful figure of the CCP raped a hopeless tennis player and got away with it. Peng had a 30 minute video discussion with Thomas Bach, head of the IOC, and the IOC declared that Peng is alive and well. But the Women's Tennis Association said that that was not good enough and they will boycott China until the Chinese government gives them proof that she is really alive and well.
