In the interview she shows a hand-written letter (a few paragraphs) and states that she submitted a statement saying she (as a Christian) was against abortion and was refusing for that reason (so didn't identify w a 'group'). Given she was working for a Catholic Charities organization, this is especially shocking. (But, we have seen Catholic Charities employees effectively trafficking children at the southern border now, so nothing really surprises me . . . .)

Unfortunately, I think she was singled out because she called an administrator and challenged him. They ganged up on her. . . . Divide and conquer tactics work when you are unprepared. :(

My husband is a federal employee and is feeling the pressure (though he has asked for a religious exemption). We'll see what happens. He is close to retirement and doesn't want to lose his pension (I say, just make them fire you 'cause it's already
gone . . . but he isn't there yet. IMO God is giving each of us a choice; it's my husband's call, ultimately, so I keep my mouth shut now.)

This is exactly why Title XII of the Civil Rights Act is so important...!

"Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects all aspects of religious observance and practice as well as belief and defines religion very broadly for purposes of determining what the law covers. For purposes of Title VII, religion includes not only traditional, organized religions, such as Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, but also religious beliefs that are new, uncommon, not part of a formal church or sect, only subscribed to by a small number of people, or that seem illogical or unreasonable to others. An employee’s belief or practice can be “religious” under Title VII even if the employee is affiliated with a religious group that does not espouse or recognize that individual’s belief or practice, or if few – or no – other people adhere to it. Title VII’s protections also extend to those who are discriminated against or need accommodation because they profess no religious beliefs."
