I'd like to reply to this reader;

1. Why would JFK Jr.'s wife's sister agree to tear up her family, go underground for many decades and generally screw up her life as I don't see her as 'having a dog in the fight'. I also remember the news stories (when there were still some journalist reporting) of her twin sister going into deep depression and physical suffering due to the loss.

Reply: The description used to ‘tear up her family, go underground for many decades and generally screw up her life’ should first be defined by the reader, because as it stands as a very general statement. What does ‘tear up her family’ mean? What does ‘generally screw up her life’ mean? These statements mean many things to many people.

One may question the reason why a WWII Japanese soldier would commit suicide rather than surrender? Or, why would a Japanese Chief Executive Officer of a corporation commit suicide when the Profit & Loss statement shows a failure in earnings? The Western mind cannot understand that reasoning.

And is why the Japanese forces tortured such prisoners because they were considered cowards. And, the CEO committing suicide shows honor to the stockholders for his failure in the growth of the company and loss of their investments. Again, the Western mind cannot understand this philosophy.

We cannot question the acts of individuals based on our perception of what it means to 'generally screw up your life'. Or, take our own life in order to maintain honor. Those actions are not in our culture.
