I saw 'Ben-Hur' in the theater when I was eleven. I think the soundtrack may have been my very first "I've gotta have that" album purchase. :)
I've sampled several YouTube clips of the opening theme ("Prelude") and haven't found one that "sounds right", so far. There are clips from remastered CDs of the soundtrack, but they lack something I know was in the original on-vinyl soundtrack recording.
Closer to that original, though, is this clip from 1979, with Rosza conducting his own music. "Prelude" is over at a little before the 4-minute mark.
I recall playing "Parade of the Charioteers" in high school band - but I don't recall any band I was in ever attempting "Prelude". I'd guess it calls for more 'chops' than young band members might have, and/or that it was too nuanced for young performers. That, and it calls for someone to wail pretty loudly on chimes. :)
Thanks to YouTuber, PRMancini007, who describes: "Excerpt from 1979 PBS show "Previn & The Pittsburgh", Miklos Rozsa (1907-1995) conducts his suite from "Ben Hur" (1959), with The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra."
