I heard from multiple people who work in the two hospitals I spent 19 days of hell in, this past couple of months say the exact same thing. My example is what a person faces if he or she, heaven forbid is hospitalized at this time. From what I seen the workers in need of their jobs toe the kool aid line, but privately they tell you, they do not like what is happening because certain patients are getting shortchanged in their care,of which I am certainly one. Here is what has happened SO FAR in my case.

...On or about June 23th, I was involved in an accidental fall with my 9 year old autistic grandson in the backyard that broke my left hip and left shoulder/arm.

...was taken to the hospital where the next day I had a partial hip replacement done, they said they wanted some of the swelling to go down before they decided what had to be done with the arm and shoulder. I was fine with that then.

...About the 4th day into the first stay, I noticed that both legs below my knees(I knew this from a prior incident in 2010,same thing both legs) were developing cellulitis,I made the nurses aware of my concern. Nothing was done and it was about this time that I felt concern, as some of the nurses suggested that they let these type injuries to the shoulder heal themselves. On top of that, this was the day they started talking about sending me to a sister hospital for up to three weeks of rehab.

...So on the sixth day they followed through and sent me to the sister hospital in the back of a vehicle in 100+ degrees with no air conditioning for about a ten mile trip at about 3 in the afternoon. They released me without addressing the issue in my legs which was getting worse.

...The second 5 days of hell were in the sister hospital and the rehab people were nice,but the floor was totally understaffed and my legs were getting progressively worse and they would not address them. The only fun was red pilling every one,but even that lost its appeal by the 3rd day, 5 days is all I could stomach and I demanded they release me,so I could see my primary doctor to address,what was by now just an insane situation with my legs considering I was in a damn hospital.

...so they release me on a early Friday afternoon, my wife having her own health issues stayed away from the hospitals. When she seen my legs, she asked me what antibiotics they had prescribed,I told her they did not give me anything for them, she came unglued,never seen her like that in the 40 years we have been together. She got my primary to order some and I took them over the weekend, but the infection was too deep,and come Monday morning she basically demanded I go back to the 1st hospital that released me( hell, she tried in her tirade to get me to go back on the Friday I was released, but I said no thank you)

...I relented Monday morning and was admitted immediately,as by then my legs below my knees were something an elephant would admire,they were fire engine red,and both weeping from about 4 inches below the knees down to where my legs used to meet my ankles, I say it like that because you could no longer tell where the leg ended and the ankle started.

...this 3rd leg was the final 8 days, and it was no more fun then the first 11.Beyond the I.V.'s and the blood draws every six hours,my arm was still in this sling,and I could not sleep in the bed, so I sat in a chair for 8 days trying to keep the legs elevated. I was in such pain, I was having a very hard time believing that this infection could be so damn painful. I was having a wtf moment about every 15 minutes on the dial.

...so during this time I basically got the same answer on the arm and shoulder from the hospital management,except instead of waiting for the swelling to go down, it was, we need to treat this infection in your legs before anything, which I found interesting,because it was the same infection I had when they had released me to the sister hospital 8 days previous. From the nurses, I got the same answer as before, oh they let these heal on their own.

...I got to go home on the 8th day, but there was a catch. They put a midline in my right arm, and the antibiotics they gave me(2 types, one that I had to take every 6 hours,and the other every 12) allowed me to feel like a junkie for a month, without the benefit of getting high. Had a nurse up until two weeks ago coming 3 days a week doing the dressings on my legs and so forth(what a medicare racket).

...So I got that going on, and after about 5 days I had my follow up with the doctor who did the surgery on my hip.The hip is doing just find by the way, but he asked about my arm and was surprised to find out that nothing had been done so far,he leaves the room for a minute and comes back with two x-rays, the one is showing the rod and screws he put in my hip. The second is of my shoulder and I was pissed, the socket has multiple cracks and pieces of it floating in the arm, the humerus has a fracture just short of a clean break and the arm itself is dislocated and totally out of the socket. He just shook his head when I told him the nurses were saying these type heal on their own.

...SO I go home with the referral to the doctor that he understood to be taking care of my arm, I get an appointment for 3 days later.

...I was a total mess the morning I went to see Dr Martin, lack of sleep combined with the pain meds they had me on were part of the issue, but my regulator for my portable 02 tanks, was leaking, and tanks that normally last 3 hours were running 45 minutes at most.On top of that I had to wear a mask although because of preexisting condition I should not have had to. Not sure exactly on all the dates because by then everything had become a blur,but I want to say this was during the last week of July.

...I say that because I do remember one date for sure. So basically after getting told one thing for a month, the doctor says this needs to be repaired immediately, you need a total replacement! On top of it, they want me to handle the pre-op, I lost it right there, I said to him god damn it you had me in a hospital for 19 days, why was nothing done with the arm then? On top of having to do the pre-op he wanted it complete by August 5th. I just laughed and said...yeah right, and took the folder and left shaking my head, which I do far too much these days.

...So basically after that appointment, I decided that things were moving too fast and that I had lost control of the situation. So for almost the entire month of August, just about every question asked of me about my situation was...NO... No the infection has not cleared up yet, NO... I have not got around to doing something that should have already been done, and beside that you have the log of my hip surgery just a month ago with any issues they had.

....So where am I now? got to take the midline out after 34 days,and was given two oral antibiotics to take for 10 days.My legs are in much better shape, the weeping has stopped, my calf's have finally started to loosen up, but I can tell the infection is still lingering. I was supposed to hear from this doctor who has been handling the leg issue now for two weeks, when I had my blood drawn for him after finishing up the meds he prescribed me. Just going to have him discharge me,and have primary deal with the infection.

...After waffling back and forth and seeing how much range of motion I could muster with the arm, I decided to have the replacement done, have done most of the pre-op work,seeing my heart doctor tomorrow to have my pace maker checked to see if it is still working,as it is right there where I slammed into the ground. Trying to get by without seeing a pulmonary doctor, have not seen one since we moved back up here in 2017, as my COPD and Pulmonary Hypertension has been stabilized and I have had no issues there. Hoping they will take my primary's word on those issues, I should have the answers by Friday.

...good thing about this is that it is a day surgery, no complications and I am out in 23 hours, so the moral of my story? you do not want to be in any hospitable right now, strange things happening in them.

....I am to close to the finish line of putting this accident totally behind me, to change horses now, but I had another you got to be kidding moment this morning when I was looking for the doctor's phone number, you cannot make this stuff up...my shoulder surgeon

smh with ya, oh yeah almost for forgot, in those 19 days I was subjected to SIX covid 19 tests, every one just as negative as the first. I told the last one, that the next person who tried to jam something up my nose was going to be in need of facial surgery.That damn tests hurt.
