Thanks, MrF. :) FWIW, the described citrus-based brew is something a doctor of chiropractic recommended for a friend of mine, decades ago. My friend was experiencing flu-like symptoms.

The doctor's recipe was just slightly different: "Cut up a grapefruit, place the parts, including the peel, into a pot, cover with water and boil for a long time; let cool, perhaps sweeten with honey, and drink" was it, basically.

My friend did that and soon found his flu symptoms were clearing.

It's long been said that there's something in grapefruit that works to thin mucus - possibly the same thing that has grapefruit interfering with certain medications...? And then there's the seeds:
