(Just thinking: It may not be because they're behind masks so much as the requirement of the mask makes them feel punished, "more sinned against than sinning". Along with the injustice and annoyance of that, the reduced oxygen level likely gives rise to increased irritabilty.)

I have something to say about mask wearing. I do not like the masks. Something far more sinister is happening that I don't like concerning the mask wearing besides someone passing out in my sister's store because the mask was cutting down oxygen supply and a woman simply passed out.

The mask is changing people. I don't like what I'm seeing. I live in a very tiny farm town of about 600 souls. Nearly all are friendly, kind and helpful, most knowing one another almost all their lives. After months of mask wearing (never mind no one in this town has had the virus), kind, patient people are turning into nasty, impatient people. Why, just the other day I was sweeping off the sidewalk and an elderly man I've known to always be nice walked by, wearing his mask and didn't even nod or say hi, so I said, "Nice day". He sneered, "What's nice about it, you jackass?" Stunned, I went back into the house. Then just yesterday at the Post Office I witnessed a sweet lady in town, wearing her mask, tell another woman, "I've always wanted to tell you what a freaking back stabber I think you are!" And she walked out.

This confirmed what I've been suspecting all along. Behind the mask people are emboldened to say things they wouldn't ordinarily say. At least not to people's faces. Kind of like the internet chat rooms where people say things they wouldn't ever say to anyone face to face. Like the movie, Mask and Jim Carey. People put on the masks to go out and they become Jekyll and Hyde.
