I was born before JFK was killed. I don’t remember it.

Nor do I remember Malcolm, Martin, or Bobby.

My awakening to the World came when I saw the pictures in Newsweek of the students killed at Kent State. One of them was named Jeff, my brother’s name. Then, it became personal.

Why would my brother be killed for speaking? For saying words?

Was this not the reason for our country?

That Free Peoples may speak? Govern themselves?

WITHOUT FEAR OF OPPRESSION?

The Shooters at Kent State were young, scared ROTC students.

Lord knows they never should have been given live rounds.

The protesters destroyed downtown.

Now, the police and innocents are killed.

I’m a honky because I’m square. Sometimes a cracker because I get pissed off and my face turns red, a whitey because I was blonde, and penguin cause my legs were so white I had to be from the pole.

Jive Turkey strutted with the bebop telling everyone and everything exactly what they wanted to hear.

Cool was laid back, with the latest tunes, starting the party, Funk essential.

Head was stoned, and made sure every one of us who wanted to be stoned was.

Goggles was the Brainiac.
