The above video includes the roll call count on the second article of impeachment. It's surreal to see the vote go along party lines, with Democrats and Independents saying 'guilty' and Republicans saying 'not guilty' - which would seem to be impossible or at best unlikely if the vote had anything at all to do with the actual weighing of evidence.

Was this trip necessary?

Rather than anything done in the interest of justice, the obvious party-line outcome indicates the 'trial' was just a tug of war between the two parties or at best a popularity contest - and therefore a huge and irresponsible waste of public funds.
