Move Over Star Trek, Matter Will Be Created from Light Within a Year! . . . . . .

It’s enough to make Sci-Fi fans weep for joy and it’s finally coming true, matter will be created from light very soon, a feat thought impossible when the idea was first theorized some 80 years ago.

We here at RealGoodNews can hardly wait.

Researchers at Imperial College, in London, have worked out how to make matter from pure light and are drawing up plans to demonstrate the feat within a year.

They’ll use high powered lasers to make subatomic particles, the building blocks of what we can see within our material world.

The collider will smash two high-energy photons, the massless particles of light, into each other to transform them into two particles with mass.

This isn’t the first time this technique, known as Breit-Wheeler pair production, has been used but in the past researchers creating matter from light had to introduce particles with mass into the process.

Imagine hooking up this technology with a 3D printer. Nothing would be out of our reach. Need a part for your spaceship, no problem. Need a new eye, arm, or pancreas? That can happen too.

It will be possible to reproduce anything and everything! The ability to convert these energies could lead to teleportation.

If they can convert light into physical matter, it will only be a matter of time before they can convert physical matter back into light.

This light would be shot (transported) to an awaiting station to be transformed again into matter. Beam me up, Scotty!

For those of you who think this technology is not feasible, just remember this; plants have been doing this since the beginning of creation.

They take the light rays of the sun and transform it into living matter. All it needs is a building block of matter, in this case a seed. Scientist now want to provide that seed.

This all brings me to an interesting question, was the ‘Big Bang’ simply light being converted into matter? Something to think about for sure.
