I figured this article (which I did not write but largely agree with) might generates some responses from the anti-meat crowd. Here is one such reply followed by my response:

My response:

Contrary to what you wrote, animals do NOT get Vitamin B12 from eating plants. Vitamin B12 is not found in plants, which no doubt explains why 90% of vegans/vegetarians are deficient in Vitamin B12

You see, Vitamin B12 is made by anaerobic microorganisms which are common in the gastrointestinal tract of animals. Thus, many animals such as ruminants like sheep and cows manufacture their own B12. Other animals get B12 by eating animal-sourced foods like other animal flesh, milk, or eggs.

I will add that among the many vital benefits of Vitamin B12 is brain health - which might explain the strident reactions of many in the anti-meat crowd when it comes to eating meat, as our ancestors have done for MILLIONS of years.

I personally condemn the way animals are treated in common feedlot and commercial diary practices, but that does not persuade me from eating healthy meat sources - organic, free range, grass fed, wild caught, etc.

Hey, it's a tough job being atop the food chain, but that is where we are and where we have been for lo the many, many millennia. I love, love, love my healthy meat, fish, eggs and milk. Make that raw organic goat milk and you have a real winner!

As a final note: As it turns out, today I am slow roasting some skin-on chicken thighs with maplewood rub, a drizzle of organic raw honey and organic maple syrup, a dusting of garlic powder, some Montreal chicken spice, some BBQ sauce and a healthy dash of Louisiana hot sauce. It's to live for!
