Imagine a ball of modeling clay about the size of a soccer ball, on a table.

Now let's imagine an iron ball, proportional to the size of the inner core in the image, at the core of our clay ball.

Let's somehow heat that iron ball to 10,800 degrees Fahrenheit (6,000 degrees Celsius) and sustain that temperature without variation for four billion years. "Iron melts at 1538 °C and turns into a gas at 2862 °C."

Imagine that in some mysterious way this explosive vaporization stays liquefied in the clay ball.

How long do you suppose it will take for the ball of clay to be baked into a brick too hot to touch without serious burns?

How long before water dropped onto the surface of the ball sizzles to steam like water dribbled into a hot frying pan?

Now let's imagine that our clay ball with its iron core is the size of the Earth, and just think about it......
