Another nearby blaze known as the EASY FIRE, broke out in Simi Valley on Oct 30 and has charred 1,860 acres, per Cal Fire. Don't know if these two fires are related in any way or what is being blamed for their outbreak.

Ventura County Fire Department is on scene of a fast moving brush fire (MARIA) on South Mountain north of Somis. The brush fire is approximately 8730 acres with 0% containment. At the tail end of a Santa Ana wind event, more than 500 firefighters, from the ground and air, are continuing to battle a brush fire on the upper ridge of South Mountain, North of Somis in Santa Paula. Firefighters are protecting critical infrastructure, including radio communications, high voltage electrical power lines, and local agricultural crops.

Weather Synopsis
Red Flag Warning in effect until 6pm Friday evening. Gusty northeast winds will continue through this morning, then shift onshore in the afternoon and evening. However, at ridgetop levels, there is a good chance that winds will remain mostly offshore through early Saturday afternoon. Offshore wind speeds are expected to peak at the fire location this morning when ridgetop winds will gust as high as 30 mph. Single digit humidities will continue through much of today, falling to as low as 4 percent. There will be some humidity recovery to between 30 and 40 percent later this afternoon and evening with the arrival of the onshore winds near the surface. Humidities are expected to lower back into single digits as the flow turns offshore once again overnight into Saturday morning.
